Luo Baoming, former deputy head of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, is being investigated for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, according to the country's top anti-corruption bodies.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision announced the investigation on Thursday, stating that Luo voluntarily turned himself in to authorities.

Luo, 71, hails from Tianjin and began his career in 1969. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1971. He held various positions in his hometown throughout the 1990s before moving to Hainan province in 2001. In August 2011, he was appointed as the Party secretary of Hainan.

In March 2018, Luo took on the role of deputy head of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the 13th NPC.
